Our ex Junior Open GP Cadet Champion Sam Randon, was racing last weekend in his final race of the season. This was his first year circuit racing, and he was competing in the Clio Cup with Pro Tyres Series.
We are very luck to receive updates from his progress throughout the season, and we thought it would be nice to share his progress with you. Below is a brief report from Neil Randon(Sam’s dad), including some exciting news regarding next year.
Last weekend was the final race weekend planned for the Michelin Clio Cup with Protyre Series that Sam has been competing in this year. Just 4 double-header weekends is a short series and our track time has been limited. But it all paid off this time with a perfect weekend at Brands Hatch and with perfect timing. We finished the season with 7 out of 8 novice class wins and two overall roadclass wins.

Sam Randon Podium - Brands

Our big news for the weekend started with the announcement that Airglide Ltd, a local paintfinishing/valeting company have agreed to support Sam. They started out by applying their paint finish to the race car and also came down to Brands Hatch to support us. Fair to say they got fully immersed in the SamRandonRacing  and SWB experience and were as equally excited as we were with the result. I hope its the beginning of a sustained partnership and friendship.
So despite the short season, we have decided to not to compete in anything else this year, despite a winter series being announced by
Renault. But the decision is a positive one. We are saving hard for a major step up next year into the “racecar” category of the same Clio Cup run by the British Automobile Racing Club. You will notice them in the video as the noisy cars at the front of the grid on slick tyres. They tend to be 3-4 seconds per lap quicker than our current car. We see this as the next step towards our goal of competing in the British Touring Car Championship one day in the future.
I will keep you all posted with news of this. We have reached a crossroads on funding this year, so this plan it will depend on our ability to raise sponsorship. If any of you have any suggestions of who we could approach please let me know. We are looking for businessmen or businesses that have a personal interest or a business link with cars and/or motorsport. All suggestions welcome.
So as always, many thanks for your support and interest in SamRandonRacing. We will keep you updated with our plans and progress throughout the winter.
